About this policy
Qatar by Date is an independently operated travel information website managed from Qatar. This policy explains how information is handled in connection with qatarbydate.com.
In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of Qatar by Date.
For privacy questions or requests, contact info@qatarbydate.com.
Information you share with us
When you contact us by email, we receive your email address, your message and any information or attachments you choose to send. This may include your name, a reported website issue or details supporting an editorial correction.
We use this information to respond to your enquiry, investigate problems and review information relevant to our published content.
Please provide only the information needed to explain your request. Do not send passwords, payment-card details, passport copies or other unnecessary sensitive information.
Email subscriptions
When you subscribe to Qatar by Date updates, your email address is stored in our website database. We use it to manage your subscription and send the updates you requested.
You can unsubscribe using the unsubscribe facility included in our emails. When you unsubscribe, the system automatically deletes your email address from the subscription database.
This deletion applies to your subscription record. It does not automatically delete separate correspondence you have sent to us or information already processed by other services.
For subscription assistance, email info@qatarbydate.com.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the website. This helps us assess the usefulness of our pages and identify improvements.
With your consent, analytics may collect information such as pages visited, website interactions, referring sources, browser and device characteristics, approximate location and cookie identifiers. The information collected depends on the analytics features enabled on the website.
We use analytics to understand website usage rather than to make decisions about individual visitors.
For more information about Google’s processing, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Cookies and your choices
Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser. We use cookies to support website functionality and, with your consent, to analyse website usage through Google Analytics 4.
Optional analytics remains disabled until you accept it through our cookie banner. You can reject optional analytics cookies and continue browsing our travel content.
Essential cookies, where used, support functions such as remembering your privacy choice. They are separate from optional analytics cookies.
You can revisit your choice through Cookie settings. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics collection through our website but does not automatically delete information already collected.
You can also manage or remove cookies through your browser settings. Removing cookies may reset preferences that the website remembers.
Why we use information
We use information for the following purposes:
-
Responding to messages and privacy requests.
-
Investigating errors, broken links and other website issues.
-
Reviewing corrections and event information submitted by readers or organisers.
-
Managing email subscriptions and sending requested updates.
-
Understanding website usage through consent-based analytics.
-
Maintaining the website’s operation and security.
Subscriptions and optional analytics are based on your choice to participate. Other processing relates to handling your requests, operating the website and meeting applicable obligations.
Service providers and hosting
Our website is hosted on servers in the United States. Information stored in the website database, including active subscription records, is therefore hosted there.
Hosting, email and technical service providers may process information needed to deliver their services. Google also processes information associated with our use of Google Analytics.
These services may process information outside Qatar or outside your country of residence. The website’s US hosting location does not mean that every service processes all information exclusively in the United States.
Information retention
Different types of information have different retention needs.
Your subscription email address is kept in the website database while your subscription is active and is automatically deleted from that database when you unsubscribe.
Contact correspondence is separate from subscription records. Its retention depends on the purpose of the enquiry, whether follow-up remains necessary and any applicable recordkeeping obligations. You can contact us to request deletion of correspondence containing your personal information.
Google Analytics information is subject to the retention settings configured for our analytics property and Google’s applicable processing rules. Retention controls do not necessarily apply in the same way to aggregated reports and individual event records. Further details are available in Google Analytics’ data retention documentation.
Technical logs and backups, where maintained by our services or providers, may follow separate retention cycles. Deleting a record from an active database does not necessarily remove a backup copy immediately.
Advertising and external services
Qatar by Date does not currently display advertising or operate an integrated ticket-purchasing system.
Our pages may link to event organisers, venues and external booking providers. When you visit those websites, their privacy policies apply to information you provide and their use of cookies or other technologies.
If we introduce advertising or an integrated booking service that changes how personal information is handled, we will update this policy and provide any required notices or choices before the new processing begins.
Your privacy requests
Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, you may have rights to request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, restriction of processing or a portable copy. You may also have the right to object to certain processing.
You can withdraw consent for optional analytics through Cookie settings and stop subscription emails by unsubscribing.
To make another privacy request, email info@qatarbydate.com. Explain the information or interaction your request concerns. We may ask for proportionate information to verify that the request relates to you.
Some requests may be subject to legal exceptions or technical limitations, which we will explain where relevant.
If you believe your personal information has been handled improperly, you may also contact the relevant privacy authority. In Qatar, information about privacy complaints is available from the National Cyber Security Agency’s Personal Data Privacy Protection Department.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when website features, service providers or data practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision.
Where a change requires additional notice or consent, we will provide it as appropriate.
