Art Lessons with Ismail Azzam is a series of portraiture sessions led by Iraqi artist and curator Ismail Azzam at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. Participants explore different approaches to drawing and painting portraits through practical work and artistic discussion.
The lessons use several media, including pencil, charcoal and paint. They are designed for participants who already have basic to intermediate sketching and drawing skills, with Tuesday sessions specifically designated for beginners.
What participants should expect
- Practice with different portraiture techniques
- Work using pencil, charcoal and paint
- Opportunities to share experiences and take part in artistic discussion
- The possibility of sitting as a model while other participants draw a portrait
Each participant must bring a personal sketchbook, as sketchbooks are not supplied by the organiser. Participants should select the session that corresponds most closely to their current skill level.
